So Long Mac Ads…

Its become a sad day here at mlgnn.com. As rumored apparently per Justin Long “the Mac” in the Mac ads, they are coming to an end. The 30 second TV ads were popular in 2006 when they first launched in the MAC vs PC war. Justin is quoted as saying,”You know, I think they might be done. In fact, I heard from John, I think they’re going to move on. I can’t say definitively, which is sad, because not only am I going to miss doing them, but also working with John.”

The ads have received a number of awards, and have also pissed off a number of Windows users (who probably like Star Trek as well). The ads stared Justin Long as the MAC and John Hodgman as the PC. There are currently 66 televisions commercials so far. I can only hope maybe they’ll so a farewell commercial. If you use a PC or Mac these commercial are hilarious even if they are a bit inaccurate. So long John, and Justin. You will be missed…

Google Says F’ Apple! Flash is Back

What about Adobe? That’s what people who like flash videos, and games are screaming at Apple. Apple is openly non-supportive of any Flash types online, and feel that’s its a “dying” technology as Steve Jobs stated earlier this year. Company’s have been scrambling to conform to Apples strict standards and not using this dying technology. Videos are being re-formatted, advertisements are re-coded, and everyone’s waiting to see the iPad (that’s what all this craziness is for). The HTML5 community has been trying to get a piece of the action and I think we’ll be seeing more via Apple. However a little bug has pop its head up and yelled HEY!. That bug is called Google.

Google’s Chrome OS with not only support flash its built in. There is no need to update as its an intricate part of the platform. Google believes that Flash is a living technology and will continue to grow, and see’s no reason to kill it now. I wonder if that’s why Job and Schmidt had lunch to compare note on how there going to not have a monopoly and still dominate the industry (secretly). Steve Ballmer would have showed up but he was busy running around the block yelling about Microsoft. We’ll see how this plays out. It’s going to become a friendly version of Google vs Apple.

FireHack Screen Tilt

So Firefox, has been pretty busy with it own hacks with version 3.6/3.7. One of the newest hacks is a tilt hack API code for the web browser. If the machine has machine orientation information available, it will utilize it. What does this mean. It means if you tilt your laptop, and the machine has the capability, the website on the screen will tilt as well. This is normally reserved to laptop just because of there portability, and capability to be picked up, but a modded PC would be able to do this as well.

Using the API is very simple. All you have to do is add a simple event listener:

This was originally built to be used on mobile phones, but they ported the code to laptops, and it worked there too.
They have added support for Macs, and PC, also Linux run systems as well, so no one is in the dark with this little gem.

Eee Keyboard is Freakin’ Awesome…

So Cool!

So the ASUS’ awesome Eee Keyboard has been spotted in China. The “keyboard” is almost a fully functional computer, with an 5-inch, 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen display/trackpad on the right side of the keyboard, is, as it turns out, running a standalone version of XP, and serves as the main display for the PC, with the external monitor functioning in a secondary capacity. Also has a music player built in. The word on the street is that it works extremely well and the keyboard will come in two styles wired, or wireless.

We are hoping for a release date for the end of June. When it will be shipped world wide, or the price is yet unknown. Pretty sure this is the future of the keyboard and I’m willing to bet this is where Apple is going to follow suite.

Transformer USB

Its finally here. The day I’ve dreamed of since I was like 14. A USB that would transform. Not just transform, but transform into a Transformer. Ravage is the first to roll out in this line of Transformer USB flash drives. He’s the awesome one that transforms into the cassette recorder and an Tripredacus Agent. For our younger readers, that’s a tape desk. Ravage is a Decepticon but that’s no reason to hate. You know you want one. I know I’ve battled my other flash drives. They always try to have battled for supremacy but never officially. However now it’s officially on.

Ravage 2 gig, selling for 49.95, and the pre odre is already sold out.

Intel is being sued by the EU…

Big news does not equal big surprises. The EU is back at it again. This time they’ve hit close to home. The European Union has imposed its largest fine ever again a company. This time its Intel. A 1.45 Billion dollars suit has been filed against the computer chip maker over anti trust issues. The EU is saying Intel has made strides to have an unfair advantage over AMD and other chip makers. Bullocks. I say.

The EU claims a lot against Intel. Such as they let computer makers give rebates on their computers with Intel chips so long as they don’t with other chips (mostly AMD). Also that there unethical practices have been going on for well over a decade and they let computer manufacturers buy out the majority of certain chips so they have the exclusive on Intel’s newest chip. So what if Apple bought out most of the Xeon processors. Maybe someone else should have fronted the money first. If this has been going on forever and everyone knew about it how is that anti-trust?

I say its all bullocks and the EU should actual sue over something that matters. People still love the AMD chips which are usual cheaper and I’ve heard work just as good. So I’m not sure what the big deal is. Although Intel did corner the netbook market with its Atom chip, but every computer company has access to the chip. Look at the specs on all the netbooks. There basically the same across the board for every computer manufacturer. I’m on my netbook right now. If Intel didn’t make the chip I would not have bought one. Leopard doesn’t on other processors. Although I mostly just use Linux on it. So I bite my thumb at the EU. Yes I did bite my thumb at thee and scream stop suing for anti-trust issues that are neither anti nor trust. The battle rages on…

This cool little contraption is just a concept by Hyuh Jin Lee, he hopes to get this off the ground. Although it already is, its on a stand.

If your computer crashes and you lose files just take out this portable drive IV and presto USB drive to computer, your on the way to mending your comps broken heart. The Doctor has anti-virus installed in it, so it will scan all your files at it recovers them, and quarantine the infected ones, also looking for corrupted files as well.

Cyber Crime = Bad economy

Cyber Crime is on the rise, which is no surprise being that someone stole the bike I stole. Just kidding. It being reported that malware it at an all time high. Which is surprisingly at the same time the economy is looking pretty damn low. So it in turn some shady cyber criminals are injecting a small script into the SQL databases. Which will turn around and send the information that its requesting back to it “home” the shady creepy in a dark basements computer. . Which would be your credit card info, your social security number, or the fact you like girls in latex, and and Asian girls. Wait that me. Heres basically how it works.

Top red Guy bad, Bottom Blue Guy good. Hey the economy sucks, cant have big pictures.

Financial services are getting hit the hardest during these times. The second types of of places getting targeted are financial payment company’s. PayPal has not mentioned any problems with security, nor would they. These are the companies that are getting targeted however. Even organized crime is getting invloved in this raquet. Roger Halbheer, chief security advisor of Microsoft EMEA says, “If there are rumors of a takeover or a merger, information can become desirable for organized crime circles. Auction bids for a laptop of a CEO amongst criminal organizations can reach seven digit figures.”

Not to scare the world, but most companies have been preached within the last two years, but since cyber crime is up, so is the security. So if you haven’t been hacked, either you use a Mac, or you’ve been lucky. Fear not though you Mac haters malware is being developed to attack Mac, and no one is lucky forever. “Protect Ya Neck” – Wu-Tang and also for once Kevin Mitnick is not to blame.

Microsoft back in court…

In Brusells Microsoft is back in court fighting to get the case infront of the EU for the anti-trust suite that has come upon them one again. This time its for Explorer 8.

Microsoft is accused of “crushing rivals by bundling its Internet Explorer web browser into its ubiquitous Windows personal computer operating system, giving the program a huge advantage over competitor’s browsers”.

Microsoft lost is case with the EU (European Union) regulators in 2007 which was then 660 million dollars. Plus another 1.2 million in fines and fees. If they lose this case it will be the bggest loss, and fine of any anti-trust case.

I’m pretty sure Microsoft couldn’t give a s&^t. They have made 27 billion dollars since 2001. So I’m sure the retired Bill gates, is shaken in his boot. I’m pretty sure with the money he makes every second, it’ll take his geriatric ass longer to crap than it will for him to right a check for 2 million dollars.

Have these people never heard of Firefox, which Microsoft hates, because its a better browser. Or even Safari. Microsoft could give 2 bits about any apple stuff, except the iPhone which has basically crippled the WinOS mobile operating systems running on phones all over the world. Everyone wants an iPhone. Also weren’t they also sued over this already? I guess if you change the number it doesn’t make it double jeopardy. Now I’m not an advote for anything Microsoft. Except MS-DOS, so I say if they wanna rule the market. Let um. Sometimes you gotta pay to be king.
