Tetris Turns 25…

So we have another birthday to celebrate. That fun lovable stupid arcade game that stole more quarters from me than Radio Shack. Tetris. The game was created by Alexey Pajitnov a Russian programmer (explains the funny looking building) in 1984. An actual classic that came along after I did. wow. We’ll Tetris is 25 today.

Pajitnov loved puzzles so it was only natural he would develop a puzzle based game. He got the name Tetris by combining the Tetromino, and Tennis. Both loves of Russia. I know I love some Russian Female Tennis players. Tetris was first release for the IBM then in 1987 it was released for the rest of the world. When Tetris was released for Gameboy and then it was right to the moon. Tetris actually has a checkered history filled with lawsuits, even involving the Soviet Government. Were not here to dig up the past. Pajitnov is back in control and is more than happy with the success. He gets more enjoyment that people all over the world enjoys the game daily, than he does from his large sum checks I’m sure he also receives.

Well Happy Birthday Tetris, we’ll see which one reaches 225 first. Game on.

Hand Held Nintendo Emulator…

You you think your a super geek. You got your iPhone, DS lite, your PSP, your Gamboy, your Sega GameGear. Am I going to through a curve ball at you. You probably don’t have the Retro Mini Handheld. Its an new take on the old school. The Retro Mini actually takes the old NES cartridges and plugs straight into the top. Then you play from the little screen in the middle.

Just blowing to the bottom, pull in and out 12.5 times and say a prayer.

The Retro runs off 4 AA batteries for 8 hours of game play. Also boasts a “hi-def” 2.5 inch screen. This also has A/V jacks to plug into your television for larger screen play. Gotta think its cheaper than buying the games on your Wii. You can pick up NES games for pennies on the dollar at your local thrift store, or used gaming shops. Why impress your friends with NES on you iPhone, break out the freakin NES. There jaws will drop at your Geekness. As a side note, bring a backpack, because the cartridges did not get any smaller, if your really cool. Get a duffel bag.

Strange These Never Caught On…

I look at these pics an I still can not figure out whats really wrong with them. They seem perfect in every way. I wish I could just have one. Maybe the umbrella headband. That would come in handy, especially when running in place. Having a pole hit you in the face. Wait… Eh. Just enjoy the pictures, and know that you missed out. Not me, I pre ordered them all, from Japan. How you ask. I called Yoshi and mailed him an apple. In 6 weeks I’ll breathe easier, and be able to cut my tie off with my scissors from my tie organizer.

The King of Kong is Back…

Steve is the MAN. High five anybody. Hello. anybody there?

So I never really had much interest in video game scores. Yeah I know some kid from Texas can kick my ass playing guitar hero. There is also some kid in Ethiopia who if given an X-Box could kick that kids ass. I just didn’t give two hoots ( I said hoots) about scores. That is until I saw King of Kong : A fistful of Quarters. Not only is this a great movie, but you get to watch a real life douche bag Billy Mitchell get his ass handed to him. The only thing going for him besides his wifes knockers is the fact he was once a video game champion. I’ll give him the fact that he’s good, but to be so goddamn cocky, give me a break.

Anyways Steve Wiebe has set a new world record Donkey Kong Jr at 1,139,800 . I wont even have to watch the video which im sure there is one to know that he got to the kill screen with a score like that. I love Steve Wiebe, he’s a good guy and decent human being (unless he started sexting). I couldn’t have been more thrilled when he took away Billy Mitchells title for World Donkey Kong Champion. So Congrats Steve. Please kill all Billy Mitchell’s scores for us. Hey the guy in the previous post went from Germany to UK to kill. Atleast Steve could do is knock Billy Mitchel into the yester-years. I wish they would make another movie, about another game. It was just so good. Oh and one last thing.

Cyber Crime = Bad economy

Cyber Crime is on the rise, which is no surprise being that someone stole the bike I stole. Just kidding. It being reported that malware it at an all time high. Which is surprisingly at the same time the economy is looking pretty damn low. So it in turn some shady cyber criminals are injecting a small script into the SQL databases. Which will turn around and send the information that its requesting back to it “home” the shady creepy in a dark basements computer. . Which would be your credit card info, your social security number, or the fact you like girls in latex, and and Asian girls. Wait that me. Heres basically how it works.

Top red Guy bad, Bottom Blue Guy good. Hey the economy sucks, cant have big pictures.

Financial services are getting hit the hardest during these times. The second types of of places getting targeted are financial payment company’s. PayPal has not mentioned any problems with security, nor would they. These are the companies that are getting targeted however. Even organized crime is getting invloved in this raquet. Roger Halbheer, chief security advisor of Microsoft EMEA says, “If there are rumors of a takeover or a merger, information can become desirable for organized crime circles. Auction bids for a laptop of a CEO amongst criminal organizations can reach seven digit figures.”

Not to scare the world, but most companies have been preached within the last two years, but since cyber crime is up, so is the security. So if you haven’t been hacked, either you use a Mac, or you’ve been lucky. Fear not though you Mac haters malware is being developed to attack Mac, and no one is lucky forever. “Protect Ya Neck” – Wu-Tang and also for once Kevin Mitnick is not to blame.

The Game Boy…

Can buy “adult films” and tobacco products but still can not legally purchase a fire arm, or liquor. Probably why we haven’t seen any Gameboy related attacks.

Nintendo’s GameBoy just celebrated it’s 20th birthday. (Applause). Now I’m not sure about you, but I had more than enough time wasted on this hand held sensation. I remember when it came out, and I have been in love with it ever since. Sure my Gray brick died years ago, but I still have it. Bought a smaller one, but just wasn’t the same. I’ve grown up just as the gameboy has. Enter stage left: DS lite, and DSIware. Hopefully after 20 years we’ll see some major innovations with the Nintendo line. and Happy Birthday Gameboy. You gave me more pleasure than any women ever has and you never complained. I thank you. and I love you. still.

Please come home. I miss you. <3

Nintendo DSIWare

The company that never gives up.

When Nintendo introduced its portable DS system in 2004, many longtime fans were skeptical. Its innovations — the dual screens, the stylus-based controls, the built-in microphone — seemed gimmicky. How could this clunky slab ever replace the beloved Game Boy?

Five years and 100 million units later, no one doubts that Nintendo knew what it was doing. The second version of the hardware, the slender DS Lite, has been particularly popular; in December, Nintendo sold 3 million in the United States, breaking the one-month sales record for any video-game console.

So it’s almost foolish to quibble with Nintendo when it comes to portable gaming. The new DSi (US$169.99) has some features I love and some I can live without, but there’s no denying it’s a nifty piece of hardware.

The most visible change is the addition of two still cameras, one facing toward the user, once facing away. The cameras are low-resolution, but they serve their purpose, allowing you to take photos and manipulate them. You can distort faces, add colors and graffiti, morph two faces together or create a kaleidoscope effect.

The DSi Sound application is less inventive. It lets you take voice or music files and change their speed and pitch, or add assorted effects, like a trumpet or an electric fan. I suspect kids will have a lot more fun making goofy faces with the camera than creating annoying sounds with the microphone.

In the long run, the most significant element of the DSi will be its ability to download software from the Internet. In this respect, Nintendo is playing catch-up to Sony’s PlayStation Portable — and certainly reacting to the threat posed by Apple’s iPhone, whose App Store has gotten a lot of people used to the idea of downloading games.

Wanting for Wares

Nintendo’s DSiWare only has five games at launch, and none of them are essential. For $2, you can purchase “Master of Illusion Express: Funny Face,” a cheesy magic trick, or “Bird & Beans,” a needless extension of one of the five-second microgames in the “WarioWare” series.

For $5 you can get “Art Style: Aquia,” an unusually difficult color-matching game. Or you can get “WarioWare: Snapped!,” which uses the cameras but only works in optimum light — a problem if you’re playing on the go.

Finally, “Brain Age Express: Math,” which recycles the math problems of the original “Brain Age” games, will set you back $8.

The DSi does play the hundreds of DS cartridges that are already on the market. Best of the recent releases: Nintendo’s “Rhythm Heaven,” Electronic Arts’ “Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure,” Rockstar’s “Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars,” D3′s “Puzzle Quest: Galactrix” and PopCap’s “Peggle Dual Shot.”

Of course, you could play all those on a $129.99 DS Lite. But if you don’t have a Nintendo portable, the DSi may be worth the extra $40 — once the DSiWare offerings get up to speed.
