Japanese Schools using GPS…

Get Back to Class, Vixen!

Get Back to Class, Vixen!

So it’s come to this… Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo is just willy nilly handing out iPhone’s. Sure its basically like an Ivy league Japanese school, and you think yeah they the money. Not the case oh my brother. These school have discovered a very luxurious way to get infomation to students, and also track students. The iPhone is being used in the School of Social Informatics. The devices will be used to relay course materials and serve as a platform for students to make their own apps. A lot of university’s have devices where students press a button during class to tell the attendance nazi whether your there or not. This goes a step further and lets the professors actually see through GPS where the student actually is.   However it also helps professors keep track of there students. I think this is a great idea. It integrates the functionally of the iPhone for course work, and also with out having to carry around those dumb beeper looking things.

Now comes the real dilemma. Kids could give there phones to their friends. I wouldn’t give my iPhone to somebody and be like there  go to class. Ill get it later. This is the mind set the school is hoping the students will have.  This sounds like its a learning tool, but definitely has the underlying tones or just keeping an eye on students without them really knowing it. Sometimes you have to give up a peace of freedom in order to have an a piece of technology.  Isaac Asimov would  not approve… Unless the iPhone followed the 3 Law of Robotics.

Supermarket GPS WTF???

Bullocks. This isn't the soup aisle.

Bullocks. This isn't the soup aisle.

So the UK government in not one, but three different centers have been developing a digital way to help the disabled and geriatric shopping crowds. WOW this is a great idea. Lets give people who can barely turn on the “tele” a little tiny screen that will probably speak to them and make them squint even more. Its not that they don’t already pay enough attention as they cruise the supermarket as they push their carts like they drive. Slow and will turn into you unexpectedly. They are calling it “supermarket satellite navigation system” SSNV. Its suppose to help elderly people who routinely get confused in the grocery store.  Yeah. This has to be the dumbest idea I have heard of since clear Pepsi. These people get confused because they don’t pay attention. Just have a big sign to the fiber aisle and where the Depends are located, and then let them loose. I can just imagine two old people on the same aisle looking for different products getting frustrated. Due to the fact that each others SSNV is talking at the same time.  That sounds like pursues will be flying or dentures will be removed for a fist fight.  The greatest thing is new development is coming from the same center that is developing a sensor system for the kitchen for Alzheimer’s patients packed with hidden sensors and projectors. Yeah because the last thing I want is an Alzheimer’s patient wondering around a house with knifes. I’m waiting for them to develop a shooting range for the mentally disturbed.  Bloody Hell.

I want access to GPS, and Knifes, and Crack.
