Apple has resorted to…

Shaken babies? For what? More money?

Who let this baby drink?

Who let this baby drink?

In a not so shocking find Wednesday Apple pulled the Baby Shaker application. The company offered an apology for the deeply offensive and said “mistake” to having it available for download. I e-mailed Steve Jobs and asked him how he missed this application, for which I have not received any comments back from.

Perhaps the strong language or threat of calling CPS on his “baby” (Apple) kept him from replying. This of course is is coming from the same company that has South Park episodes available for download.

Perhaps Apple has bitten off more than it can chew. They stated last year they would review every application that was submitted for content. This however does not seem to be the case. Perhaps they should outsource to a third world country. Like they do with everything else. Also like everyone else.

I think the Baby Shaker as disturbing as it was,  is a necessary evil. It sets up a nice example of how freedom of speech, and the right to create something so ugly and sell it makes this an awesome county. Was the application inappropriate, and wrong yeah. This is America people. If you don’t agree think of it like this. Stop staying your shoot the Zombie games because they remind me of your great grandmothers. Your shooting your Great-grandmother and to me thats offensive.  Just as shaken Babies offend you.

Touching the Military…

iTouch: The next killing machine. and i thought I was tough.

iTouch: The next killing machine. and i thought I was tough.

The hottest new battlefield weapon in Baghdad is also a hot item on the home front.

iPod Touch is proving to be a valuable tool to members of the U.S. military, according to a report in Newsweek.

The report notes that the iPod performs many functions in this time of “networked warfare,” enabling soldiers to be linked with other soldiers, as well as intelligence resources, such as aerial images from drones and translation software.

Soldiers can use applications to add translated phrases to maps and photos, as well as show villagers video messages from local leaders. A new program called Vcommunicator translates spoken and written Arabic, Kurdish, as well as two Afghan languages.

Another application developed for the iPhone allows soldiers to take a photo of a street sign, upload it, and immediately receive intelligence on the local area, such as water and sympathizers. Because new recruits are already familiar with how the iPod and iPhone work, it’s also easier to train soldiers on loading content, the report notes.

Oh yeah, this rugged device, which retails for less than $230, was developed in the private sector without taxpayer money. Considering the military’s history of being charged for $435 hammers, $640 toilet seats, and $7,600 coffeemakers by contractors, this is a great deal.

iVirus?

Malware hunters at Symantec have discovered a direct link between a malicious file embedded in pirated copies of Apple’s iWork 09 software and what appears to be the first Mac OS X botnet launching denial-of-service attacks.

Writing in the current issue of Virus Bulletin (subscription required), researchers Mario Ballano Barcena and Alfredo Pesoli found two malware variants — OSX.Iservice and OSX.Iservice.B — using different techniques to obtain the user’s password and take control of the infected Mac machine.

The variants have been found inside bogus copies of iWork ’09 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 which were shared on the popular p2p torrent network. The author of the malware downloaded the original/trial versions of each program and introduced a copy of the malicious binary into the packages. Users who then downloaded and installed the applications from the torrent download would have been infected. It is estimated that thousands of people have downloaded the infected torrent files.

They describe this as the “first real attempt to create a Mac botnet” and notes that the zombie Macs are already being used for nefarious purposes.

The researchers pointed to this blog entry that describes a a PHP script, running as root, launching attacks against an unknown Web site.

The article goes into detail on the botnet’s peer-to-peer engine, startup and encryption capabilities and configuration file structure and concludes that the person who wrote the malware is not the same as the person who actually ‘used’ it.

“The code indicates that, wherever possible, the author tried to use the most flexible and extendible approach when creating it – and therefore we would not be surprised to see a new, modified variant in the near future,” the researchers added.

I hope this doesnt affect the iPhone. or my MacBook for that matter. Its a dark day for the macworld. Apple Fanboys will be wetting their beds for days. I already put plastic down.

In the begining there was Apple.
