Japanese Robot Teaches Kids…

Still obsessed with Japanese robots. I know I am. I wish I could buy them like those handy Japanese panty vending machines. Um and continuing on … Researchers collaborating from the Nippon Institute of Technology, Harada Vehicle Design, ZMP  and ZNUG Design have just taken the wraps off another addition to the crew. The newest version of the e-NUVO walk bot stands about 4 feet tall, making it roughly the size of an elementary school aged child, and will be incorporated into classes to teach children about humanoid robots in a hands-on environment.

Ah leave it up to the Japanese to have a robots that’s hands on with kids. Here in America that robot would get 15 for 5…

Creator of CAPTCHA…

So basically nothing good is going on in the world today. Mostly due to the fact that we as humans are basically obsessed with the death of a particular pop star. I’ll leave my feelings aside, and yes I am sad, I thought he had a lot of talent, his personal like not so much but, that’s for people to discuss when there not here hopefully learning something new. So after thinking about how much information is wasted everyday I found my self filling out a meaningless CAPTCHA. If your not familiar with what I’m talking about, there the pointless and meaningless words you have to fill out in a box, that proves your a human. Computers have yet to reach a point where they can distinguish between words that are not crisp. They have to make a guess because there not as intelligent as us, yet. (This is where Isaac Asimov pops out with some robots and beat me up!) Then of course it led me to find out more about CAPTCHA.

Well Luis von Ahn the computer scientist who made CAPTCHA to help stop spamming, has come up with some creative ideas for CAPTCHA. He knows we all waste time filling out these things for new e-mail addresses or friend requests, so he put CAPTCHA to work for us. Watch the video and find out how CAPTCHA is actually working for you, and how you help every time you fill one out. Its really cool and now I don’t feel like its a waste of time.

Direction asking Robots…

The ACE (Autonomous City Explorer) robot was built by the researchers at the Technical University of Munich. This funky little bot asks people for directions as it travels down the street. ACE uses cameras to recognize people and stops them to asks them to point in the direction that is indicated on its screen, and is able to recognize the direction the people point. The bot uses maps out the city as it goes along the streets.ace1

On the test run ACE was able to go a little under a mile just by asking 38 people to point the directions on the screen in about 5 hours. Better than the bum that circles the buildings downtown and asks for directions to a place just south of heaven.

Creepy Japanese Don’t Build It…

No Doctor. Stop

Developers at Japan’s Osaka University are building a child robot. The child robot has a biomimetic body. So thats awesome. Whats biomimetic you say. Glad you asked. Biomimetic is human-made processes, substances, devices, or systems that imitate nature. Want more info get as smart as me.

The child robot is named CB2 such as child squared. My freaky little buddy

Hey Mister, buy me a sixer?

Hey Mister, buy me a sixer?

sports 51 air actuators, 5 motors, and 197 tactile sensors. Also has freaky alien gray silicone suit that hides its innards. The little robot boy is 4 feet and 3 inches tall, and weights 73 pounds.

Am I the TOY?

Am I the TOY?

The child has the capabilities of a 1-2 year old right now. They are focusing on getting the child to imitate facial expressions. The child can also walk with some human

help. I hope they hold his hand when crossing the street. Cause I will run this thing over. Thinking its an alien sent here to take over the world. As a side note, I break for E.T. I’m not heartless. Although children robots are.

CB2 is equipped with 51 air actuators, 5 motors, and 197 tactile sensors under its soft gray silicone skin. It measures about 4 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 73 pounds.

You sick bastard.

HAL is finally here…

  • “Robot Suit HAL” is a cyborg-type robot that can expand and improve physical capability.
  • When a person attempts to move, nerve signals are sent from the brain to the muscles via motoneuron, moving the musculoskeletal system as a consequence. At this moment, very weak biosignals can be detected on the surface of the skin. “HAL” catches these signals through a sensor attached on the skin of the wearer. Based on the signals obtained, the power unit is controlled to move the joint unitedly with the wearer’s muscle movement, enabling to support the wearer’s daily activities. This is what we call a ‘voluntary control system’ that provides movement interpreting the wearer’s intention from the biosignals in advance of the actual movement. Not only a ‘voluntary control system’ “HAL” has, but also a ‘robotic autonomous control system’ that provides human-like movement based on a robotic system which integrally work together with the ‘autonomous control system’. “HAL” is the world’s first cyborg-type robot controlled by this unique Hybrid System.
  • “HAL” is expected to be applied in various fields such as rehabilitation support and physical training support in medical field, ADL support for disabled people, heavy labour support at factories, and rescue support at disaster sites, as well as in the entertainment field.

This thing seems to be the coolest thing since, well they made the stormtroopers customs available to the public.  Only if they came with helmets…

Even HAL prays to a robotic God.
